After hearing from a friend how wonderful Lisa was and how much acupuncture had helped her, I finally went for it and made the appointment and I'm so glad I did! Lisa has the touch for this type of treatment and she's great at pinpointing exactly what is needed in order to help with your issues. She truly wants to help and that's something you don't always find in the medical field. My pain has gotten so much better since starting treatment with her. The office is so clean and is so relaxing. I literally could fall asleep in the lobby- it's so quiet and tranquil. Lisa has a great attitude, a great humor, is kind, and is incredible at what she does! Be honest, tell her what your problems are, because if you don't, she can't help you in the best way(s). Highly recommend!!! S.W.
The best acupuncturist you could possibly visit. She is very skilled in her field and extremely thorough. Aside from this, she is one of the most caring and compassionate human beings you will ever meet. I owe my new, healthy lifestyle to Lisa. If you're in doubt about acupuncture or alternative medicine as a whole, visit Lisa and I promise you she will take away any doubt(s) you have. Visiting East Coast Acupuncture and Alternative Medicine is the best thing I have done for MYSELF! Trust me she will not disappoint! Thank you, Lisa! -H.B.
Amazing experience! Lisa relieved me of headaches and tension that were causing me daily pain. She listened to all of my symptoms and concerns and addressed each one. Her office is quaint and comfortable. It really was a wonderful experience and I couldn’t be happier. -J.D.
I cannot say enough about the wonderful experiences I've had with Lisa at East Coast Accupuncture. I was a skeptic, but she is the only person who has been able to help me with my severe neck and back pain. I have nerve damage and inflammation issues. Lisa was always attentive to my immediate and long term concerns. -A.D.
Is Acupuncture Painful? When performed by a trained, licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is unlikely to be painful. Most people find their acupuncture treatments relaxing. Some patients actually fall asleep.

Acupuncture for fertility is a passion of Dr. Sweeters. Having experienced fertility issues herself, she used a combination of acupuncture & IVF to conceive her daughter and became a mother in 2019 for the first time at the age of 43. She regularly works with patients that are trying to grow their families and understands the challenges and stress that come with both infertility as well as the IVF process. Though it may feel like a very overwhelming, lonely & stressful time, the reality is that there are so many women that are experiencing difficulty in conceiving. Acupuncture and IVF can be very helpful in many of these situations & Dr. Sweeters is passionate about helping families grow & thrive.
Our goal is to provide alternative medical care that helps alleviate pain, discomfort, and imbalance within the body. Though acupuncture is an ancient medicine, it is frequently only considered by patients when other, often more "conventional" & expensive modalities have failed to give them relief. It is not uncommon for conventional treatments to leave patients frustrated by unwanted side effects & unresolved complaints. Our treatments are gentle, yet effective & help to treat both the root of the problem, as well as the symptoms. Acupuncture is highly effective, but often requires a series of treatment for full relief for symptoms that have been present for a long duration of time. We do our best to bring patients relief as quickly as possible.
At East Coast Acupuncture & Alternative Medicine, we take the time to thoroughly understand our patients and help them reclaim their health naturally & gently. We treat both troubling symptoms such as pain and promote holistic wellness and balance. We offer acupuncture, cupping, and Low Level Light Therapy (LLT) as an add-on or stand alone treatment.
We specialize in non-narcotic practices in treating pain such as (but not limited to) headaches, chronic pain, acute injuries, joint pain, & muscle pain. Commonly addressed issues include neck & back pain, knee pain, tennis elbow, shoulder injuries, & fibromyalgia. We use an array of acupuncture methods such as utilizing distal points (not near the area of concern or injury), ear acupuncture, & Traditional Chinese Acupuncture methods. Our goal is to treat and relieve your pain or bothersome condition(s) without the use of pharmaceuticals or over-the-counter medications. We can treat more than one issue during your visit. First-time acupuncture appointments last approximately 90 min.- 2 hours and follow-up appointments are 45-60 min.
Herbal medicine is an important part of Oriental Medicine & like acupuncture, has been practiced since ancient times. There are countless herbal formulas to treat a variety of illnesses & conditions, & many are available already made from reliably sourced ingredients. Herbal consultations & prescriptions are currently available at East Coast Acupuncture & Alternative Medicine along with nutrition & dietary therapy.
Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) is FDA approved for the treatment of arthritis, muscle & joint pain, muscle spasms, muscle tissue tension, muscle & joint stiffness, and inflammatory acne vulgaris. The Celluma LLLT device may be used to promote collagen production & is a non-invasive method of rejuvenating aging skin by improving skin tone, texture, & clarity. Celluma may also be used to promote wound healing and reduce edema. It is available as an add-on treatment (+$30) while you receive acupuncture, or you may come in for just a quick stand alone Celluma session ($50).
Is Acupuncture Painful? When done by a licensed, trained acupuncturist, it should not be. Occasionally, there may be very mild discomfort, but it is overall a very relaxing, comfortable experience.
What Is the 1st Appointment Like? You will meet with Dr. Sweeters to discuss your condition & she will evaluate your case. The consult & evaluation are typically followed by an acupuncture treatment. Once the treatment has started, the patient will be left to rest for a few minutes, but will be checked on regularly to ensure that they are comfortable. After the 1sr visit, many patients feel very relaxed & sometimes drowsy. Possible drowsiness after the 1st appointment is unlikely to occur in subsequent appointments for patients that are receiving acupuncture on a regular basis.
How Do I Prepare for my appointments? If it's your first appointment, please bring your completed intake forms with you. Please take a shower & be sure to eat a light meal before you receive treatment. Please wear (or bring) loose-fitting clothes that are easy to move (roll up/ down). If you'd like, you may bring a change of clothes if you prefer to wear something other than street/ work clothes.
How Long Does Acupuncture Take to Work? That depends. It depends on the individual situation, the duration & severity of symptoms, & the desired course of treatment. We advise patients to have acupuncture treatments more frequently when they first start coming, whit the goal to taper down to fewer visits as quickly as possible. However, some patients do no see any improvement in symptoms until after they have had a few treatments. Acupuncture relies on the body's own ability to heal itself & everyone is different.
